- Read President Jim Shannon’s Spring Address.
- The WA-BC Chapter was selected as the Western Division’s 2010 Chapter of the Year. We received the certificate at the WDAFS Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City, and you can see it on our website.
- Canadian students:
- Applications are now being accepted for the Peter A. Larkin Student Travel Award to assist Canadian students interested in fish and fisheries research in attending the annual AFS Meeting. Deadline: June 15, 2010.
- BC Hydro is sponsoring scholarships up to $4,000 in total to BC college and university students majoring in some aspect of environmental studies (e.g., fisheries, wildlife, ecology, water resources, etc.). This is coordinated by the Washington-BC Chapter and the Sustainable Fisheries Foundation. Deadline: June 11, 2010. - 2010 Call For AFS Volunteers: Get Involved; It Is Your Society!!! Volunteers are needed for national level AFS committees. Please consider applying. If you prefer to help locally, there are also many opportunities with the WA-BC Chapter. Contact any ExComm Member for more information.
- The WDAFS membership passed the revised Bristol Bay resolution at the 2010 annual meeting.
- The 2010 AGM in Nanaimo was a success. See the wrap up.
- Congratulations to UW Ph.D. student Thomas Poole who won the $500 Travel Scholarship provided by the WA-BC Chapter for travel to the WDAFS Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City.
- Join other WA-BC Chapter members at the AFS Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh. Check back for more information about WA-BC activities as the meeting approaches.
