The Student Activities Subcommittee Chair, or his/her designee, will

  • Assist Accommodations Chair in devising and implementing a plan for student housing.
  • Coordinate with other subcommittee chairs to arrange for the following events:
    Student Colloquium Subcommittee:
  • Organize a student colloquium with a topic or topics of interest to students, and invite speakers for the colloquium.
  • Plan the colloquium for a convenient time, such as preceding the other student activities.
    Career Fair Subcommittee:
  • Organize a career fair that brings students and other job seekers together with potential employers and/or representatives of the various employment sectors (private, government, academia, etc.).
  • Select the ideal time for this event, such as preceding the student social.
  • Coordinate with the Meeting Rooms Arrangement Subcommittee for a location if this event is held in the Convention Center or hotel.
    Student Social Subcommittee:
  • Make arrangements for the Tuesday night off-site student social.
  • Recommend to the LACs a policy regarding attendance at the student social.
  • Implement all aspects of the student social.
    Student Mentor Luncheon Subcommittee:
  • Plan, promote, and coordinate the student mentor luncheon.
  • Organize a system for soliciting mentors and students.
  • Work with Meeting Rooms Arrangements Subcommittee for a location, or find a nearby off-site location for the luncheon
    Student Recruitment Subcommittee:
  • In coordination with the Volunteer Coordinator, find students to assist at the conference (for pay –usually 5-10 hours per student). Find students from WA-BC schools first, other areas if no further volunteers from WA-BC
  • In coordination with the Promotions Committee, help to produce a flier about the various student activities to be convened at the conference. Distribute this widely via email, Facebook, Twitter, etc, and use for the AFS 2011 web site.
    Student T-shirt Subcommittee:
  • Organize sufficient volunteers to promote and sell all of the conference T-shirts (net proceeds benefit student activities).
  • Coordinate with conference planners on when and where to sell T-shirts
  • Attend the T-shirt sales booth, handle all funds, and track T-shirt sales.
